Designing Search Pages - Strategies and Best Practices
Scott McDaniel, Cognetics Corporation
Michelle McDaniel
There is no single search page suitable for every situation. Search page usability
depends on several factors, including the searcher's knowledge level, experience, and
goal. This session first presents a set of design guidelines and best practices for
designing search pages, and then it discusses the strengths and weaknesses of a variety of
common approaches. The presenters co-authored an article on designing search interfaces to
meet users' needs in the Summer 2002 issue of User Experience magazine.
